1000 Friends of Florida presents Community Steward Award to Citizens for Tree Preservation, Inc. and the Petitioners' Committee On March 20, 2002, 1000 Friends of Florida presented their Community Steward Award to Citizens for Tree Preservation and the Petitioners' Committee at the Legislative Reception and Awards Ceremony held in Tallahassee. The award was presented in the form of a framed watercolor painting by Dawn McMillan depicting the petition drive.  The painting was commissioned by 1000 Friends of Florida. The text portion of the award reads: The Board of Directors of 1000 Friends of Florida hereby presents the COMMUNITY STEWARD AWARD to the CITIZENS FOR TREE PRESERVATION, INC. and PETITIONER'S COMMITTEE for their inspirational grassroots activism resulting in better protection for the special character of Jacksonville and Duval County "I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of society but the people themselves."   –Thomas Jefferson March 2002
